Lisa Sheek and her husband of Jacksonville, FL adopted 6 children from foster care on Monday, September 8. News4Jax was with the family at the courthouse and reported on the adoption ceremony. The couple, who already have two grown biological children, admit they never thought about fostering so many children, much less adopting them all.
“It’s true they’re not ordinary children. They are extraordinary and they are survivors and they are my heroes,” Lisa Sheek said.
The Sheeks officially adopted five girls and one boy; siblings from two different families. Their ages ranged from 2-12. Judge David Gooding, who has helped finalize the adoptions of around 4,000 children over the years, made the adoption official. Gooding knows the struggles youth aging out of the foster care system can face, and believes permanent, loving families are the solution.
