KVC Behavioral HealthCare, Inc. will honor six fathers from its Championship Fathering program at a Resolution Ceremony on Dec. 12 from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Crosspoints Church, 6824 Lackman Road, Shawnee, Kan. 66217. National Center for Fathering CEO Carey Casey will speak at the celebration dinner, which will be attended by participants’ families and give participants an opportunity to share their resolutions with the group.

KVC’s Championship Fathering program is a fathering group based on Casey’s book Championship Fathering. The group objective is to encourage fathers to become “Championship Fathers” for their children by loving, coaching, modeling for their children, encouraging other children, and enlisting other dads as Championship Fathers.

“I would encourage any and all fathers to join a fatherhood group,” David Schembs, group participant, said. “It is a place to vent and get good feedback from other fathers.”

KVC hopes that the creation of groups like this will help build stronger families and address the crisis of fatherlessness that is negatively affecting children in our society in many ways. This group is part of a larger movement happening in the United States and a goal of the Kansas City-based National Center for Fathering is to recruit 6.5 million fathers to be Championship Fathers.

“Many men don’t know how to be a father and take responsibility for their children anymore,” Mark Davis, KVC outpatient therapist and group leader, said. “While many men are taking the ‘easy way out,’ the men participating in Championship Fathering are taking the ‘road less traveled’ to be there for their children. These men are courageous and uncommon. This is their defining moment and during Championship Fathering at KVC Behavioral HealthCare, they have encouraged each other to stay strong in the midst of adversity and to fulfill their responsibilities as fathers.”
