KVC and NYU Bring Training on Childhood Traumatic Stress to Southeast Kansas
On May 20, 2015, more than 50 professionals attended a free seminar about childhood traumatic stress at the Parsons City Hall in Parsons, Kansas. The seminar was sponsored by the NYU/KVC Midwest Trauma Training Center and presenters included Mary Beth English, LSCSW, Director of Family Preservation – KC Region for KVC Kansas; Matt Arnet, LCPC, Director of Outpatient Services for KVC Kansas; and Brenda Soto, LSCSW, Supervisor of the Outpatient Department for KVC Kansas (pictured above).
Professionals attended the seminar on behalf of many different child- and family-serving organizations including the Kansas Department for Children and Families, Four County Mental Health Center, Labette Center for Mental Health Services, Parents as Teachers, Southeast Kansas Education Center, and the Youth Crisis Center. Participants learned how to recognize traumatic stress, support youth and families dealing with traumatic stress, and develop effective ways of coping with secondary traumatic stress.
Here’s what some of our participants had to say about the training:
- Thank you so much for helping teach this priceless information and a new and better approach of how to treat and care for victims of trauma.
- Such valuable information. Easy to follow and understand. I really needed to get/become more aware of trauma-informed care and practice.
- Training was informative and served as a refresher course. It applied to my everyday work duties.
- I really enjoyed this – speakers all did a great job.
- Really made me think about what goes on at home really affects our students.
